The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Dordogne region

The summers in Aquitaine are fantastic, usually hot and sunny, there is plenty to do . If you were feeling outgoing, Dordogne has everything to offer! From all sorts of sports (biking, trecking, horseridding, kayaking, paragliding) to the discovery of our dozens of medieval castles overlooking the Dordogne river, and the unique in Europe prehistorical caves and paintings of the Veyzere valley.

To complete the perfection of this beautiful area, you should go on a wine tour around all the most world renoun vineyards, St Emilion, Monbazillac, St Estephe etc... All of these above being at a relatively short drive from your cottage.,should you fancy a trip to the ocean and a visit to the world famous dune du Pyla, you can reach the west coast of france at the Bay of Arcachon within two hours drive on the motor way,where you can enjoy fresh local oysters.

Cendrieux / Sainte Alvere area

Cendrieux is a small village in the heart of the countryside, very peaceful and quiet. Cendrieux, our village, is 5mns walk away and has a supermarket, and a post office.

It is situated in between the large towns of Bergerac and Perigueux where you have movie theaters, shopping, restaurants and large stores. Le Bugue is about 12 kms away which is a beautiful little town located on the banks of the the Veyzere river. You will find there some local Cafes, a big market on Tuesdays, and pharmacies etc. The "foie gras" is THE local speciality! Enjoy!

Each villages in the area take turns for market day. Hence, there is not one day in the week without one of those local attractions happening in the vicinity. The Tuesday Le Bugue market is renowned in the whole area, and is just over 10mns drive. You will find there all other shops, pharmacies, and supermarkets.
 

Attractions


Hundreds of years of history - Prehistoric Caves, Châteaux, Vineyards, fortified villages. The stunning medieval town of Sarlat is just over 20 km, as well as the world famous prehistoric caves "Les Eyzies" and "Lascaux". And not to far a drive (about an hour), you could discover the wine region of Bordeaux with its numerous wine castles, such as St.Emilion, Montbazillac, and many others.

Perigord Noir is the heart of the Dordogne offering a variety of landscapes, flamboyant chateaux and the centre of prehistoric history. All the main attractions are within easy reach :-

  • Perigueux - in Perigord Blanc, the regional capital has a beautiful old town, roman remains, shopping, daily market and fine dining

  • The beautiful town of Bergerac, start of the wine area, is 30mns away.

  • Les Eyzies - commonly known as the world's prehistoric capital, with numerous painted caves. World Heritage site.
  • Lascaux Caves (near Montignac) - the world famous caves discovered in 1940.
  • Le Bugue - aquarium, re-created village, canoeing, caves
  • Sarlat - The stunning medieval town of Sarlat (in which many movies were shot) is just over 30mns drive.

Activities

There is canoeing, fishing, horse riding, cycling, kayaking, walks through woods, fruit picking, and strawberry farming in the area. Air parks - 35mins - zip through the trees & test your head for heights  www.appel-de-la-foret.com

Golf - The Mortemart 9 hole golf course is 5 minutes drive away from the cottages. www.guidesdesgolfs.fr

Coast/Beach - In just over 2 hours drive, you can reach the Atlantic Coast, climb on the highest dune in Europe, La Dune de Pyla (117 meters high), and enjoy the fresh oysters of La Baie d'Arcachon.
